How to Get the Brine Field Ability
Step-by-step walkthrough to find and unlock the Brine Field support ability through Sanctuary pillar parkour.
Brine Field is a support ability that deploys a protective brine zone healing allies and damaging enemies within its radius. Unlike the default Frag Grenade or offensive Turret, Brine Field provides sustain that carries teams through Herald boss fights and high-Brine elite encounters. The ability is hidden in the Sanctuary area and requires completing a pillar parkour sequence to unlock. This guide walks you through every step from entering Sanctuary to permanently adding Brine Field to your ability roster.
Prerequisites
You must reach the Sanctuary area during an expedition — the third combat zone after Abandoned Temple and Gardens. Sanctuary features vertical level design with elevated platforms, pillar structures, and parkour routes that distinguish it from flatter previous areas. No specific Brine level is required, but arriving at Sanctuary depth 2 or 3 with comfortable movement skills (double-jump, air dash) makes the parkour sequence significantly easier.
Recommended loadout: any weapon with good mobility — Engine Rifle or Combat Bow for ranged safety during parkour. Avoid heavy melee builds that lack repositioning tools. Practice double-jump timing and air dash direction changes in the lobby before attempting the sequence under expedition pressure.
Finding the Pillar Area
During Sanctuary exploration, look for an elevated pillar cluster in depth 2 or 3. The area features tall stone pillars arranged in a sequence that forms a parkour route upward. Visual cues include brine-tinted glow effects on certain pillars and a faint shimmer indicating the parkour path direction. The sequence is not marked on the standard area map — thorough exploration of side rooms and elevated platforms reveals the entrance.
Navigate to the base of the pillar cluster. The first jump point is a low pillar near the area's eastern section, accessible from the main combat corridor. Clear any nearby enemies before starting the parkour sequence — falling resets your position and enemy respawns can interrupt the attempt.
Pillar Parkour Sequence
The parkour route consists of five pillar jumps ascending to a hidden shrine at the top. Each pillar requires precise double-jump timing and air dash correction to land on the narrow surface. Follow this sequence:
- First pillar: Jump from ground level to the lowest pillar. Standard jump plus double-jump reaches the top comfortably.
- Second pillar: Double-jump from the first pillar toward the second. Air dash horizontally if you undershoot the landing.
- Third pillar: The tallest intermediate jump. Double-jump immediately at jump apex, then air dash toward the pillar top. This is the hardest single jump in the sequence.
- Fourth pillar: Shorter horizontal gap. Double-jump with minimal air dash correction.
- Fifth pillar / shrine platform: Final jump to the shrine platform at the sequence apex. Landing here triggers the unlock interaction.
If you fall, you return to ground level without penalty — simply restart from the first pillar. Solo players benefit from reduced enemy spawns that keep the area clear during retries. Co-op teammates can clear enemies below while one player attempts the parkour route.
Unlocking Brine Field
At the shrine platform, interact with the glowing ability altar to permanently unlock Brine Field. The unlock persists across all future expeditions and appears in your ability selection screen in the lobby. You can equip Brine Field as your expedition ability, replacing Frag Grenade, Turret, or Anchor.
Brine Field deploys a circular brine zone at your target location. Allies standing in the zone receive healing over time while enemies inside take brine damage. The zone persists for several seconds before dissipating. Ability cooldown resets between combat rooms, allowing one deployment per encounter typically.
Using Brine Field Effectively
Deploy Brine Field at the center of boss arenas before Herald fights begin. Stand in the zone for sustained healing while landing weak-spot shots. In co-op, position the zone where teammates concentrate — typically the arena center where melee players engage and ranged players orbit.
Stack Barrier Aspect on secondary fire for additional shield layers alongside Brine Field healing. Barrier shields absorb burst damage while Brine Field handles sustained chip damage recovery. This defensive combo carries teams through boss variation modifiers that increase incoming damage. See the Brine Field ability page for detailed stats and Blessing synergies.
Brine Field also works solo as self-sustain. Deploy the zone and fight within its radius for passive healing during elite encounters. Less DPS than Turret ability but significantly safer for solo players learning Sanctuary and Royal Abyss content.
Alternative Ability Comparison
Compare Brine Field against other abilities before committing to your loadout. Turret provides passive DPS for aggressive builds. Anchor enables melee brawler playstyles with Blood and Shadows Aspects. Frag Grenade remains the default for burst damage. Most experienced players unlock all abilities and select per expedition based on area and team composition.
